Gastronomic trade fairs and activities and weekly markets

Enjoy the trade fairs and gastronomic activities of the Baix Empordà region and buy local products at ecological or weekly markets.

1. La Sopa de Verges (Soup in Verges) (Tuesday of Carnival week)

The Soup is a throwback to an ancestral custom when the old feudal lords gave the population food. It is organised today in a collective way once a year, on Shrove Tuesday.

2. L’Arrossada d’Albons (Rice in Albons) (Shrove Tuesday) (Tuesday of Carnival week)

During Carnival time, one of the most deeply-rooted customs is a meal served to a large number of people. In Albons, this tradition has been preserved and, on Shrove Tuesday, rice is the main ingredient.

3. El Mercat del Brunyol (The Dough Fritter Market) (Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Holy Week)

Around the monastery, Sant Feliu de Guíxols offers visitors a great selection of brunyols (dough fritters) from different cake shops and bakers in the municipality, of which we would particularly mention the brunyol de triangle, a typical dough fritter found in Sant Feliu de Guíxols.

4. El Ganxotapes (Tapas) (Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Spring)

5. Fira de l’Oli (The Oil Trade Fair) (Calonge. March)

Calonge hosts a trade fair dedicated to oil, with children's workshops, official oil tasting, the Oil Menu, a garlic mayonnaise competition and so on.

6. Fira Empordà, cuina i salut. (Empordà Trade Fair, cooking and health.) (Torroella de Montgrí and l’Estartit. May)

Torroella de Montgrí hosts a fair dedicated to local products typical of the Empordà region with a great variety of workshops and activities to encourage healthy cooking.

7. Els Enfilalls (Tasters) (Palafrugell. June)

Palafrugell offers a great variety of tasters so that you can try out our gastronomy, served as mini brochettes.

8. La Fira de la Gamba (The Prawn Trade Fair) (Palamós. June)

Palamós invites you to try out the well-known prawn from Palamós in various ways, thanks to the caterers who are members of the Gamba de Palamós guaranteed brand.

9. La Plantada Tradicional d’Arròs (Traditional Rice Planting) (Pals. June)

A demonstration given by farmers from Pals showing how rice was traditionally planted in the past.

10. Tapa Tast. Ruta de Tapes (The Tapa Route) (Torroella de Montgrí and L’Estartit. June)

A Tapas route through the municipality of Torroella de Montgrí and L’Estartit.

11. La Fira de Vins i Caves de Catalunya (The Wine and Cava Trade Fair of Catalonia) (Pals. Mid-August)

A trade fair where you can taste a great variety of wines, cavas and cheeses, with other parallel activities such as a craft and food market or evening concerts.

12. Tapa Tast. Ruta de Tapes (The Tapa Route) (Torroella de Montgrí and L’Estartit. September

A Tapas route through the municipality of Torroella de Montgrí and L’Estartit.

13. Jornada del Vermut (The Vermouth Day) (La Bisbal d’Empordà, 11 September).

The traditional soda siphon is one of the iconographic products and images found at any bric-a-brac fair. At La Bisbal d’Empordà, you will be brought closer to this tradition.

14. La Fira de la Poma (The Apple Fair) (Ullà. Third Sunday in October)

A trade fair at which visitors can buy bags of apples, purchase desserts made by the locals in which apples are the main ingredient or try out freshly made apple juice. The fair, which is held in the old town centre, is complemented with craft stalls. 

15. La Sega Tradicional d’Arròs (Traditional Rice Harvesting) (Pals. October)

A demonstration given by farmers from Pals showing how rice was traditionally reaped in the past.

16. La Festa de la Cervesa (The Beer Festival) (Platja d’Aro. Late September and early October).

A festival in which some 15 establishments participate by offering some thirty brands of national and imported beers. All accompanied by groups of music and other musical activities.

17. Tastaolletes, (La Bisbal gastronomy and pottery trade fair)  (La Bisbal d’Empordà. October).

La Bisbal d’Empordà hosts a gastronomy show consisting of small tasters served in ceramic dishes, which are the star product of the municipality.

A promotion of various tapas from Sant Feliu de Guíxols in local restaurants and bars.

19. El Palamós Gastronòmic (Gastronomic Palamós) (Palamós. October)

Several conferences to celebrate the gastronomy of the town of Palamós from all its areas, to get to know its entire offer, to taste the local products, to enjoy the experience of cooking with the best chefs and with the family.

20. El Concurs Tapa Estrella (The Star Tapa Competition) (Palamós. October)

A competition in which each tavern in Palamós creates an original tidbit and/or a tapa. This proposal can be tasted in every tavern and visitors can give them a score on the Octubre Gastronòmic website.

21. La Festa del Vi Nou (The New Wine Festival) (Calonge. Second weekend in November)

A festival with activities related to the world of wine, tasters, exhibitions, and starting off the barrels of new wine from Calonge, guided tours, etc. 

22. La Fira del Bolet (The Wild Mushroom Trade Fair) (Sant Sadurní de l’Heura. Third Sunday in November)

A festival with an exhibition of wild mushrooms, a traditional meal for everyone, with wild mushrooms as the main ingredient. You will also find some thirty stalls with traditionally produced products or those linked to the world of wild mushrooms and entertainment, workshops and a play.


EcoMercat Món Empordà (Ecological Market)

A market selling organic products in various locations of the Baix Emporda.

Rupià: first Saturday of the month
Corçà: second Saturday of the month
Verges: third Saturday of the month
Torroella de Montgrí: fourth and fifth Saturdays of the month


La Bisbal d’Empordà: plaça Major (Saturday)

Sant Feliu de Guíxols: plaça del Mercat (From Tuesday to Saturday and orgànic market every first Saturday of the month)
Palafrugell: C/Pi i Margall (From Tuesday to Saturday).

Palamós llotja del peix (from Monday to Friday afternoon) and av. Catalunya (From Monday to Saturday).
